Creating your hierarchy

Did you ever wonder how to create Jira sub-issue within Jira sub-tasks? Or create a Jira epic within another epic? Would you like to change how you organise your Jira project in a way that isn’t currently supported by Jira out of the box? This is where Panorama for Jira can help you. 

Add existing Jira issues to Panorama

You can drag and drop existing issues within Panorama:

  • Create or open your Panorama.

  • Choose issues you want to add

  • Drag and Drop them to your Panorama. You can nest them however suits you.

  • (Optional) Create directories which can contain any number of issues and other sub-directories

FAQ

How to create directories within directories? 

Make sure you’ve created a panorama and imported some issues there, before you read this article.

How to create a hierarchy out of your issues:

  • Add issues to your panorama

  • You can nest an issue under another one by dragging it inwards or outwards. Hover under an issue that you’d like to be the parent issue. Hover over an issue that you’d like to be a child issue.

  • While dragging an issue, you will see a blue bar in places you can put the issue in and a red bar if you cannot put the issue there for some reason.

  • Drop the issue (or many issues selected with SHIFT or CTRL/Command) in the blue spot.

In the Panorama there’s a possibility to define a custom hierarchy (different from standard Jira Epic > Task/Story > Sub-task) that will automatically structure your issues in a desired way.

Organizing the hierarchy

If you’d like to have the issues separated into a few groups (i.e for feature/release/sprint planning), create some directories. You can add multiple issues and sub-directories underneath each directory.

There are two ways to add

one

a directory to another directory:

Create & drag:

Click create new directory button and once

  1. Click on the folder icon.

  2. Once the new directory is created and , it appears at the bottom of the Panorama, please drag .

  3. Drag and drop it under the desired directory.

Target a specific directory:

  1. Click on the directory for which you plan to create a sub-directory.

  2. With the directory selected, click create new directory button. click on the folder icon.

  3. The new directory will appear under the selected directoryone.

How to delete issues / directories from panorama?

Please click on an issue or a directory which you plan to delete. Once selected, please click trash button to delete the selected issue or directory. All issues or directories under the selected one will be deleted.

To delete many issues or directories, click on them while holding

the 'ctrl' key

the CRTL key on your keyboard (Command (⌘) for Macs). With multiple issues and / or directories selected, click the trash button to delete them all at once.
